Pet-Friendly Co-Living: Position 1 on a Narrow Niche

What happens when you stop competing for the obvious keyword and go after the one your buyer actually types.

Sector Co-living and rental, Singapore
Programme age Approximately 6 months
Measured via Google Search Console and GA4, March to August 2026
Disclosure A property DataCare Solutions owns, not a client

Why we are showing our own site first

Agency case studies usually hide behind an anonymous logo and a percentage. We would rather start with the one site where we can show you everything: our own. There is no client confidentiality to work around, no cherry-picked window, and no incentive to describe the result as better than it was.

It also means you should read it with the right discount applied. We had full control of the site, the content schedule and the technical decisions, with no approval cycles and no competing priorities. Most client engagements do not run that cleanly. The automotive case study is the client-side counterpart, and it is deliberately far less flattering.

The niche

The obvious target was “co-living Singapore”: high volume, heavily contested, dominated by operators with far bigger budgets and years of domain history. Ranking there was not realistic and, more importantly, would not have been worth much. That search is full of people comparing the whole market with no particular requirement.

So the programme targeted a narrower thing: people searching for pet-friendly rental and co-living. Fewer searches, but a specific unmet need, far less competition, and a searcher who already knows what they want. That is the trade at the centre of this case study, and it is the same trade we propose to most SME clients.

Where it ranks, on non-branded queries

These are the searches from people who do not yet know the business exists, which is the half of search that has to be earned.

What that table is not

It is a selection, and you should read it as one. The site-wide average position across all 1,000+ recorded queries is 13.8, not 1.4. Most of those queries are long-tail terms the site ranks for incidentally and was never targeting. The single largest query by clicks is the brand name itself, at 95 clicks. The table above is the non-branded, high-intent subset, which is the subset the programme was actually aimed at, and it is the right one to judge the work by. It is not the whole picture, and any agency showing you only the first two rows is hiding the other six.

What organic search does for the business

GA4, most recent three months, 2,733 sessions in total:

  • 1,898 of 2,733 sessions came from organic search, or 69.5%. Direct was 26.1%, referral 2.2%, organic social 0.6%. Organic is not the largest channel by a little; it is the business.
  • 80.6% of engaged sessions were organic, and organic engaged at 70.4% against 35.7% for direct traffic. Search visitors arrive with intent, which is the difference between traffic and an audience.
  • Organic drove 31 of 35 recorded key events, 88.6%, on an engagement time of 1m 25s per session against 46s for direct.
  • 45 website enquiries between March and August 2026, with 29 form submissions in the most recent three months.
  • Named first by ChatGPT when asked for pet-friendly co-living in Singapore.

On the enquiry figure

The 45 enquiries are total website outcomes over the period. The business also sells through Carousell, and enquiries are not claimed as exclusively organic-attributed. Organic driving 88.6% of recorded key events is the closest honest attribution available, and it is a strong number, but it is not the same as saying organic produced 45 enquiries.

The measurable AI channel

GA4 recorded 30 sessions from its AI Assistant channel over the three-month window, engaging at 66.7%. Small in absolute terms, and that is the point: it is a channel that did not meaningfully exist two years ago, it is now measurable, and it is growing. Most businesses cannot yet tell you whether AI assistants send them anyone at all.

Search content creates additional entry points

The rankings above are not one page doing the work. Individual content pages each pull their own search traffic for different intents:

Page targetImpressionsClicks
Room for rent Singapore10,292133
Pet-friendly co-living Singapore rules8,76774
Pet-friendly co-living Singapore 20266,161136
Pet-friendly room rental Singapore2,12277

This is why the programme includes content rather than only technical optimisation. One homepage ranking for one term is a single door. Four pages ranking for four intents is four.

Why the AI citation matters more than the ranking

A first-page ranking puts you in a list the searcher then has to work through. Being named first by an AI assistant means the assistant has already done the choosing. For a narrow, well-defined query like this one, that is a materially stronger position, and it is available to smaller businesses in a way that competitive head terms are not, because answer engines favour specific, clearly structured sources over generally popular ones.

If that mechanism is new to you, our guide to generative engine optimization explains how answer engines pick their sources and what makes a page citable.

What this does not prove

Read this before you extrapolate

A narrow niche is exactly the condition under which this result is achievable. The same programme aimed at “co-living Singapore” would not have produced position 1 in six months, and we would not have promised it. Positions also move: this is a six-month average from a reporting period, not a permanent state. And organic being the largest acquisition source is a share, not a volume claim. The absolute numbers here are modest, as you would expect for a deliberately narrow niche.

What the programme actually included

This was the standard Search Growth Programme: an SEO-optimised site build, hosting and maintenance kept in scope, content produced against an agreed keyword set, and monthly reporting from Search Console rather than a dashboard of vanity metrics. Nothing was bought, and no link scheme was used.

Past performance is illustrative only. SEO and GEO results depend on competition, search demand, website history, content quality, search-engine systems and other external factors. Search positions vary by location, device, personalisation and time, and AI responses are dynamic. These examples are not a prediction of your results. Beyond the specific commitment set out in our Page 1 Keyword Guarantee, we do not guarantee particular rankings, traffic, enquiry volumes, AI citations or sales outcomes.
